Holiday Creme De Menthe Smoothie

Holiday Creme De Menthe Smoothie

If you like mint during the holidays, or any time, you will love this smoothie! We added only half an ounce of crème de menthe due to the strong mint flavor that tends to overpower the fruit flavors. You could experiment with other types of alcohol along with the crème de menthe, such as amaretto, Irish cream, or crème de cacao. When using the sweet liqueurs, it would be best to use fruits with rich flavors such as oranges or bananas. We were going for a distinctive mint flavor with this smoothie recipe, which was achieved by using mild flavored fruits and vegetables (cucumber and pear).

Red Hot Cinnamon Eggnog Smoothie

Red Hot Cinnamon Eggnog Smoothie Recipe

Just wait until you experience the smooth delicious flavor of this holiday-inspired smoothie! You will make it a tradition every year from now on! We used prepared eggnog that we purchased at the supermarket, but homemade would be even better. Be careful with raw egg yolks, since they may be contaminated with salmonella bacteria. Try to use either pasteurized liquid, whole eggs, or a recipe where the eggs are cooked to kill the bacteria. If you purchase eggnog, make sure it has been pasteurized. After all of these safety precautions are taken, enjoy your scrumptious holiday concoction with your loved ones.

Dracula Blood Orange Smoothie

Dracula Blood Orange Smoothie Recipe

Yummy!! This creepy smoothie bubbles right out of the glass while making the kiddies smile. Blood oranges are native to Italy and are not always easy to find in other countries. If you are searching for some and do not see them in the produce section, check the juice aisle. It is worth the hunt to make a Halloween celebration extra spooky. Blood oranges contain one of the super antioxidant compounds, namely anthocyanins, normally found only in berries and a few vegetables. The dark red, blood-colored pigment forms when oranges are grown in a cooler temperature. The magic of nature provides what our bodies need in almost any climate.

Holiday Pumpkin Smoothie

Holiday Pumpkin Smoothie Recipe

Pumpkin is naturally high in carotenoids, substances that fight and/or prevent cancer and keep your vision sharp. Some studies show that canned pumpkin may be healthier than fresh pumpkin because the nutrients are concentrated and in a form that is easier to absorb by the human body. So, fresh or canned, enjoy a holiday pumpkin smoothie today! Pumpkin is also extremely high in potassium, which is important for blood pressure control. Sprinkle on some cinnamon to promote balanced blood glucose. Who says holiday foods have to be full of sugar and fat? Enjoy this low carb, low calorie treat, and forget about holiday weight gain.

Cranberry Smoothie

Cranberry Smoothie Recipe

What says festive like a cranberry smoothie? We used fresh cranberries in this recipe, but you could also try it with the canned variety. Fresh cranberries are lower in calories and have more of the antioxidant power retained, but they may not be easily found all year round. The wheat germ adds a strong satisfying wheat flavor. If this is not your thing, optionally you can leave out the wheat germ. You can also try it with another additive such as chia seeds or flax oil, which will not add a lot of extra flavor. The stevia sweetens up the tart berries for a tasty holiday treat that will impress!

Eggnog Holiday Smoothie Recipe

’Tis the season! Tie one on with this versatile, healthy rendition of traditional eggnog. The tartness of the plain yogurt complements the eggnog perfectly giving the smoothie a mild eggnog flavor while providing probiotics to keep your GI tract healthy. This smoothie recipe has about 250 calories without alcohol and about 350 with alcohol, so if you are watching calories, use this as a dessert or treat. Do not forget the nutmeg as a garnish on top.
